Present Day WWE

As most of you know, I am a rabid wrestling fan. Watching since late ‘99 during the closing years known as the “Attitude Era”, there were many reasons to be a fan then. It wasn’t the repetitive, washed down cycle that you constantly see over and over. That time marked the era of great wrestling and a huge fan following that came after. There were also 3 wrestling companies fighting for television supremacy (WWF coming out on top eventually over WCW and ECW). This is what made it great, plain and simple. One,  there was actual wrestling between the drama that ensued. Two, the story lines made people pay attention. Three, PUPPIES!!! (WWF fans know what I’m talking about) That time also brought to you heroes and icons such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and so on so forth. These were the people that were the epitome of wrestling. Unfortunately all great things come to an end. Not that WWE died, or anything, it just couldn’t hold itself up in popularity. From 2002 and onward, the business still ran, but slowly declined in popularity.

Wrestler CM Punk joined the ranks of the WWE roster in 2005, debuting on the WWE version of ECW. From the beginning, the kid had my attention from the get go. He lived to his hype, wrestling across the globe, and now finally showing off the skills he has to the masses. He kept the audience captivated with his the talent that he possessed.Zoom forward to present day 2011. If you’re aware of what’s going on in the business, then you are probably just as confused as I am, when it comes to what’s going on.  On an episode of Monday Night RAW, June 27th 2011, during the last 10 minutes live on air, he did a promo skit that brought wrestling fans jaws to the ground. Wearing a Stone Cold t-shirt, he walked up the runway ramp, microphone at hand, sat Indian-style on the top and shot from his mouth the most eye opening promo that hurled insults at the McMahon family, WWE talent agents, for firing promising superstars before their time to shine happened, and the poster boy of WWE, John Cena. At that same time, he announced his contract with WWE was expiring on the night upcoming of the upcoming Pay-Per-View (Money in the Bank 7/17/11). This past Sunday, July 17th, 2011, he finally became the WWE champion, in his hometown of Chicago… an hour and 15 minutes before his contract with the company expired. (Fake or Real?) WHO CARES AT THIS POINT!?!? He has brought WWE out of its rut, and making it relevent to the world again. Making an appearance at the San Diego Comic Con, during the Mattel/WWE interview, while fellow wrestlers Bret Hart, Triple H and Rey Mysterio were present, and Punk and Triple had an exchange of words. What is the deal with this story? I don’t know, either this is real, or this is a storyline that has been destined to happen

Either way, this has made wrestling even better to watch, now anticipating what happens next week. So to all my fellow wrestling fans out there, have faith, keep watching, cause it’s only going to get better :-)
